01. What is a Social Security Number?

 

A Social Security Number (SSN) is A number issued by the US government to people for payroll deductions for old age, survivors, and disability insurance. Anyone who works regularly must obtain a SSN.

 

 

02. How do I apply for a SSN?

 

There are two letters that must be obtained from the university before applying for a social security number.

 

  •  *Letter of Employment from Drexel/Other employer
  •   Letter from the ISSS verifying your student status and eligibility

 

The ISSS (located at Creese Student Center) will provide you with letter #2. They will provide you will all the instructions on what to carry with you (passport, I-20, etc) and where to go to apply (40th Market Street). It takes approximately 2 weeks to process the application and receive the SSN in the mail.
